The tragic death of Vincent Chin reignited the Asian American Movement of the 1960s and fueled a powerful, pan-Asian coalition of activists who demanded that Chin’s murderers be brought to justice. Despite the persistent advocacy of these activists, Chin’s murderers never spent a day in jail. These cries echo today as millions of people join protests around the country to fight for Black lives and demand structural changes to systems that have oppressed immigrants and communities of color.

We denounce the recent rise in anti-Asian sentiment and xenophobia related to the COVID-19 pandemic and urge solidarity with all people of color. Furthermore, we recognize that our community’s struggle for civil rights must be linked to the larger movement for racial justice.

The AAC commits to advancing inclusion and equity across the Commonwealth by unifying around collective actions and supporting policies and programming that uplift communities of color.
